Green Street is a picturesque hamlet on a single lane with a good number of pretty period houses and cottages a short drive to the A120 and only about a mile from the western edge of Bishops Stortford. Green Street Farm is situated in the middle of the hamlet and is Grade II Listed, described in the Listing as “A 16C house with plastering on the front dated 1666, with various extensions and changes in the 19C”. List entry number 1290335.
This old period house has been in the ownership of the current family for some time. The accommodation is arranged over two floors and has some exposed timbers. The front door leads to a timbered dining room, inner hall with staircase to the first floor and under stair storage cupboard, rear hall with door to the outside, cloakroom, kitchen with a basic range of base and wall storage cupboards, electric hob, oven and fridge and a utility room with a Worcester propane boiler which provides heating and hot water. There is also a sitting room with a brick fireplace and wood burning stove, a study and playroom. On the first floor there are three double and two single bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Outside, the property is approached through metal gates to a large area of hardstanding and to the right, the base and footings of period buildings which are no longer there. There are two smaller period outbuildings which are in a state of disrepair. On the far side there is an area of water (a former moat) and a period barn with timbers and weatherboarding which has been protected to some degree by a corrugated tin roof. Adjoining this barn there is a brick building known as The Pump House, which formerly provided water to the hamlet up until about 40 years ago.
The grounds are very easily maintained, mainly grass and trees. A separate driveway and gate lead to a paddock.
This is a project and there might be some planning potential, both to convert the barn and also where the period outbuildings once stood. There is historical planning consent to convert the barn into an annexe.
