The the rear you will find a landscaped garden complete with vegetable patch, garden shed and convenient access to your garage. The garage with parking is access via driveway to the side of the property Viewings are highly recommended
Living hereOn sunny mornings, the front of the house is bathed with light, see yourself in bed with a cuppa looking out over the field. Or sitting on a bench with a coffee outside of the front of the house passing the time of day with walkers. In summer evenings, drinks and barbeques in the garden will be in full sun. As the night draws in, you might have fairy lights and enjoy the the dark sky surrounded by the scent of honeysuckle, jasmine and roses. Whilst youre out gardening, a cheery hello over the fence from the neighbours and a chat is always nice, Church Lane is a very friendly community and we all feel very much a part of it and help each other out. No 1 is situated well away from the road, no need to put the (well trained!) dog on the lead when you walk up the bridleway along the field. There are 10 households in the Lane, the first house being the old rectory and split into two. House ownership on the Lane rarely changes. Whether you go to Church or not, many local people open and close the Church for a week on a rota (maybe 4 weeks a year). You might volunteer for the working party to help tidy up the Church field and churchyard or Community Woodland. A good way to meet people and eat cake! Our Community Woodland offers events and is part of the Wychwood Project the annual Wychwood Fayre is recommended (different locations). The garden is mature, featuring scented honeysuckle, jasmine, roses, spring bulbs. Cottage-style front garden planting eg rosemary, sage, santolina, dahlias, penstemons, Michaelmas daisies, nigella, morning glory, sarcococca, lavender. Veg beds with raspberries (fruiting through til Oct), rhubarb, elephant garlic, swiss chard, spinach, herbs etc.The house is on a water meter so you only pay for what you use.The garage fits one car for parking. If youve a small second car, it may fit in front of the garage and still allow turning space for houses no 2 and 3. Otherwise, park on the Lane, or on the road. The LaneThe Lane and largely the village are largely unspoiled by street light pollution. Its great to enjoy the starry skies at night and see tawny and barn owls (and badgers if youre lucky) on a dusk walk up to the Community Woodland.A couple of times over the last 10 years, potholes on the Lane needed filling, so households each put in 30. Previously the owners of the last house, Field House and The Bungalow, organised for it to be done. As the Lane is an unmade road drivers tend to go slowly.History of the houseAs far as I know, the original terrace of houses was demolished and rebuilt in 1968 from the original stone, as they were in such a state. They were originally in a row with No 4, but were set back when rebuilt. I believe 1 Church Lane was the wash house for the other cottages, The land was owned by Blenheim estate, so they may have been farm tenants cottages. Many people locally were in employment as part of the wool and glove making industries, Witney Blankets were very famous shipped all over the world. Hence theres a rich wool industry heritage in the Cotswolds.
