Property Details
Built in 1958 by the legendary Captain Alan Villiers, this captivating property served as his retirement home until his passing in 1982. Captain Villiers, a world-renowned seafarer, author, and adventurer, left an indelible mark on maritime history. Among his many accomplishments, he played a pivotal role in the construction of the Mayflower II, a faithful replica of the ship that carried the Pilgrim Fathers to Plymouth Rock over 400 years ago.In 1957, to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the original Mayflower's voyage, Captain Villiers commanded the Mayflower II across the Atlantic, culminating in a triumphant arrival in New York City's East River on July 1st, where he and his crew were honored with a ticker-tape parade. Today, the Mayflower II remains seaworthy and is docked near Plymouth Rock in Providence, Rhode Island.Since its acquisition by the current owners on July 4th, 1984, the house has undergone significant expansion while preserving key elements of its original charm. Notably, some of the mahogany used in the construction of the Mayflower II has been thoughtfully incorporated into the home, creating a unique connection to its storied past. This property is not just a home but a piece of living history, offering a rare opportunity to own a residence with an extraordinary maritime legacy.
