This fabulous Victorian family home with self-contained annex is set in a no-through road in the heart of this delightful Thameside village. Believed to date from the 1880s it was transformed from a village shop 50 years ago by the current owners.

The main house comprises 4 bedrooms and a bathroom, the living space has a drawing and dining rooms, study and a 19’6 kitchen/breakfast room with utility room: the attached annex has a bed, bathroom, living room and kitchen.

The gated drive leads to a double width carport with secure store, there are private gardens to the rear with potting shed and summerhouse.

Long Wittenham

Long Wittenham lies in the Thames Valley in South Oxfordshire and was mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086. There are many timber framed and thatched cottages in the village, as well as a mixture of Georgian, barn conversions, post war ‘Cornish’ housing and new builds.

Various evidence and artefacts of various past eras have been found in the Thames and in land surrounding the village.

The nave of St Mary’s Church was built in 1120 and over the following three centuries further elements were added including a timber framed entrance which is believed to be around 800 years old. It is thought the church was built on the foundation of an earlier Saxon church and legend suggests that in the 7th century St Birinus preached at the steps of the Village Cross bringing Christianity to the locality.

The modern day village boasts a primary school, (according to the school website, Ofsted stated that “teaching is good and a proportion is outstanding”). There is also a village public house and an Indian restaurant as well as various clubs and societies including a history club, athletics club as well as a Women’s Institute. The village still has a rural feel, but the benefit of being within a short driving distance to the towns of Didcot and Abingdon.
